Development log 2: Prototyping

Hello! We are glad to announce some cool features that we added to the gameplay and awesome visual stuff that our artists made for the game!

Let's start with new gameplay features!

Enemy ships - sand-drifters

The player has enemies now. They are capable of doing about the same things as player can which makes them quite a threat in an open sand-sea. Those ships also tend to carry treasure chests with them which can be collected by the player after defeating the enemy.

Fight and loot!

Enemy ships patrol different parts of sand-sea and will attack the player if they come in sight!

Drifting in sands...

The enemy ships can:

  • Randomly patrol areas
  • Detect and chase the player
  • Attack player by shooting from cannons
  • Drop loot on death

Loot for score

In order to evaluate player's fortune we added a score system. The current score is displayed in the upper part of display. Right now it only reacts to picking up treasure chests but we surely will add more reasons for the score counter to get bigger.

This is mine now!

Ship's condition and crew's condition

Now it's time to make gameplay more interesting and challenging. Shooting down enemy ships without getting any damage would be too easy, but not being able to fix up your ship would be too cruel. So we have addedhealing zones for your ship, those zones are a part of workshop-silands (comming soon). But besides taking care of ship's health the player has also to keep track of crew's state which is indicated by the energy-counter. When it reaches zero you will have seconds before the whole crew dies and the game is over. To prevent such an outcome, make sure to regularely visit pub-islands, where you can quickly restore crew's energy!

Snack up, fix up, take off!

Now let's talk about the progress of our artists. They have made an amazing job by experimenting with Unity's abilities, researching wonders of sand-element and daring to visualize the dream world of sands and adventrues!

We are super-hyped for implementing all the stuff we have in our minds and make it feel good! Now when we have experimented enough we can start working serious!

See you next week!
